about

Inaudible Answer presents Discards from Huess. After an unintended hiatus of over a year since his last release (2011’s What It Cost), the EP comprises four original tracks and an epic remix from Big Mister Doom. As Huess explains:

“When I make a tune, I usually have a clear idea of how I want to use it – whether it’s a remix, for a mixtape or for an EP. But these tracks were all sitting on my hard drive doing nothing and I really wanted to put them out there. They don’t have anything in common and weren’t going to be used for anything else so it’s almost like they’re being thrown away. But they’re each lovable in their own way and I hope people find a place for them somewhere…”

The set is kicked off by Splash Pamela. With its soul firmly rooted in early ‘80s synth/boogie, the folding bassline and beautiful vocal stabs combine with slapping snares to head nodding effect before giving way to a chunky synth riff on the second half of the tune. This is followed up by the acid bounce and hand claps of How Close Do You Think Is Appropriate? Also remixed by Big Mister Doom on Track 5, the beats give way to an explosion of squiggly synths and vocal cuts taking the track to an altogether different place. Power Danger Brains is more conventional but still manages to mix off-kilter rhythms and synth bass in an insistent beat. The remaining track is Not Afraid which tumbles through a tranquil bump of cosmic synth frequencies…
