It has been fully 20 years since the release of Global Communication’s ‘76:14’. For many of us, this was our first experience of the talents of Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton, widening the horizons of electronic music and paving the way for (amongst others) Boards of Canada, Africa Hitech and just about everything to do with the Big Chill.
To mark the occasion, and desperately trying to distract himself from how terrifying it sounds to be 20 years on from when he first played it on student radio, Huess has produced his tribute to this seminal album: ’14:76’. Taking most of the samples and all of the inspiration from tracks off the original and, unsurprisingly, clocking in at exactly 15 minutes and 16 seconds – Huess gives the source material his trademark wonky-workover.
